
Dr. Angela Allen is a laboratory research scientist who has worked in West Africa, Papua New Guinea and Sri Lanka.
Her main interests are studies of common red cell and haemoglobin variants and their relationship with malaria. The focus of the current work in Sri Lanka is to identify factors that are responsible for disease severity in children and adults with Hemoglobin E thalassaemia. She is also involved in a joint project with colleagues in Freetown, Sierra Leone to develop laboratory services.
